I'm sort of a consulting engineer. Attire depends on situation and audience. I gave myself enough time before hand to "get ready" for the meeting. I drive the bike to work any chance I get, if it's not raining or snowing :) I usually wear dockers and dress shirts in the office, but since I don't travel far, I can wear them to ride the bike.
My friend is not associated with my job or profession in any way. Just someone who's opinion I value, although don't always agree with.
